Hi guys,
I'm an ex-smoker from Norway who is really interesting in the quit smoking area. Perhaps it has something to do with me also being a third year psychology student + the fact that my entire family (almost) smoke heavily.
Anyways, as I've read about attitudes as well as experiencing my own, there is a distention made between explicit and implicit attitudes in psychology - perhaps you already know this. The point is that these two attitudes might be in conflict and unfortunately, studies show that it might the implicit attitudes that "take over" as they are more automatic and habit-based than explicit attitudes. This is also my experience as a smoker as I certainly wanted to smoke and still wasn't able to (until recently).
One of my professors in uni is currently running an experiment online that is testing these attitudes. Importantly, it gives an implicit attitude measure at the end of the experiment which people have commented on being really useful for their quit attempts.
Also, it's anonymous and everything and has been supported by Cancer Research UK (pretty impressive I think).
If you guys want to check it out here's the link:

However, it has to be 2 hours since your last cigarette (otherwise it might not work!) and you have to be over 18. It takes about 15-20 minutes but I thought it was quite entertaining myself.
Let me know how it went and what it said about your implicit attitudes towards smoking!
