    Hi guys,
I'm an ex-smoker from Norway who is really interesting in the quit smoking area. Perhaps it has something to do with me also being a third year psychology student + the fact that my entire family (almost) smoke heavily.
Anyways, as I've read about attitudes as well as experiencing my own, there is a distention made between explicit and implicit attitudes in psychology - perhaps you already know this. The point is that these two attitudes might be in conflict and unfortunately, studies show that it might the implicit attitudes that "take over" as they are more automatic and habit-based than explicit attitudes. This is also my experience as a smoker as I certainly wanted to smoke and still wasn't able to (until recently).

One of my professors in uni is currently running an experiment online that is testing these attitudes. Importantly, it gives an implicit attitude measure at the end of the experiment which people have commented on being really useful for their quit attempts.
Also, it's anonymous and everything and has been supported by Cancer Research UK (pretty impressive I think).
If you guys want to check it out here's the link: http://www.attitudestosmoking.com/modified/

However, it has to be 2 hours since your last cigarette (otherwise it might not work!) and you have to be over 18. It takes about 15-20 minutes but I thought it was quite entertaining myself.

Let me know how it went and what it said about your implicit attitudes towards smoking!

    Hey BBBreezy!

I am still going strong thankfully. Cannot believe it, never thought I would make it this far. Have my ups and downs I have to say, one minute I don't think of them ever and the next I can't stop thinking of smoking. I have heard that never goes away, you always get an inkling, it is just dealing with that, that matters most.

I still feel horrible about myself tho, put on weight, skin is bad, hair is bad, sleep is bad. Hopefully I will get a positive soon though lol.

Well done Bbbreezy, you are doing so well!

I started journey Jan 18 and still having bit of tough go at it, tho not enough that I want to go back to day 1. How are you all doing?

    Hey Carol!!

I feel exactly the same, I am stopped 9 weeks today and I am telling you, I dont think I have ever felt so fat and unhealthy

I too have put on over a stone!

Someone suggested to me snacking on nuts and things like that instead of sweets, it really doesnt give me the same satisfaction though. Maybe we have addictive personalities and need a crux.

If you work it out or have any suggestions, please let me know, getting me down too.

P.S you are doing so well, keep it up!!

Hi Everyone, been stopped 8 weeks and having a really bad week - gagging for a cig and fed up of shoving food in my mouth instead - not to mention how enormous I feel. Have put over a stone on in weight. I've used just about every aid: patches, gum, lozenges, hypnotherapy (£120) and read Allen Carr's book (which was brilliant) as well as attending Smoking Cessation. I'm desperate to stay stopped so registered here for a moan. Feel a bit better for it too. Good luck all!
