I have some questions about the use of Zyban. Of course I have read awful stories about it but also I have read some really good stories. If anyone has used this to help them quit please let me know how it affected you.
I read where if you are depressed or feeling down you shouldn't take it, cause the guy I was seeing we just stopped seeing each other and so I am down and I don't want this medince to make it worse. Also, drinking, I like to have some beers on the weekend and it talked about people blacking out and stuff so that scares me. And then some people only take it for a short period of time and once they quit they stop taking it, so how long I wonder do they stay quit. I know alot of questions, but I have the prescription waiting at the pharmacy but wanted to get some feed back on people's experiences here. Thanks, Mic. |

I don't have any info on Zyban - and I don't think anyone on here at the moment is taking it.
It's quite an old medicine now and has been basically replaced by Champix (called Chantix in the states). I used Champix at the start of my quit, and found it a fantastic drug. The only side effect I suffered was nausea - but it can also make depression worse. I can't speak too highly of Champix, but as with any medication it is vital to talk to a Doctor about it first and bring up any concerns with them. Also go back to see your Doctor immediately if you have any problems after taking it.

I have two friends who quit using Zyban and didn't suffer any major side effects (only dry mouth and weird/vivid dreams) and one of them likes a drink and had no problems with this.
For this reason I have decided to go for Zyban and am collecting prescription/getting the tablets/starting taking them tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on over the next week if that would be helpfull? ungleGirl (should have been BungleGirl but misstyped!) |

BungleGirl, thanks I appreciate your help. I will pick up my prescription tomorrow and start next Tuesday hopefully. I really want this to work! But don't want to have bad side affects.

Well I just picked up my prescription and have taken my first tablet!
The leaflet that comes in the packet says "drinking of alcohol should be minimised or avoided during treatment as Zyban may increase the effects of alcohol" - I'm going to a BBQ tomorrow so to be on the safe side I'm going to try to stick to one glass of wine. I did read somewhere on a forum on the net that some people who took Zyban lost the desire to drink. |
